8 things to know about Cabot Citrus Farms

There is a short list of things that are super popular right now. Sabrina Carpenter, leopard print pants and according to my 12 year old source Ava, JJ from Outer Banks are all super hot right now.

However, in my golf obsessed mind there is nothing more lava hot right now than Cabot Citrus Farms. The resort just opened the brand new 18 hole Roost course to go with the wildly fun Karoo course.

In addition to 36 holes of championship golf, there are also two short courses at Cabot Citrus Farms. You have The Wedge which is a creative 11 hole par 3 course and there is The Squeeze which is a 10 hole executive course.

Here is the official rundown of my favorite 8 things about Cabot Citrus Farms.

#8. The Foggy Sunrises

From a photography perspective, there are few things more captivating than some low light cutting through a fresh batch of early morning fog. When I arrived at Cabot, I was greeted with that special foggy morning goodness. I snapped away as I prepared myself for a day filled to the brim with great golf.

#7. The Accommodations

Aside from the golf, there are a lot of things to appreciate about Cabot Citrus Farms. Axe Throwing, Bass Fishing, and Archery are just some of the things that await the guests. I like to focus on the golf but there are plenty of activities for the entire family.

As you can see in the photo below, The cottages at Cabot are also right on top of the golf course. Each 2 and 4 bedroom cottage offers a patio and a fully customized kitchen with luxurious living quarters. No detail is overlooked at Cabot Citrus Farms.

#6. The Logo

While it certainly isn’t a requirement for a good golf course to have a good logo, it certainly doesn’t hurt when they do. Cabot Citrus Farms hasn’t overlooked a single element of the golf experience and the logo is just another home run at a resort where a lot of home runs are already being hit. This is just like the 1998 Sosa / McGwire home run chase, but with 100% more golf.

The design is is clean, simple and shows potential to make a deep run at the logo Olympics in 2028. Old favorites like Merion and Sleepy Hollow will be heavily favored, but I can see the Cabot Orange making the Sweet 16.

#5. The Sandy Terrain

When I first visited the Cabot Citrus Farms property in 2018, it was a golf course called World Woods. The majority of the property was completely grassed over and it felt more like most other courses in Florida. However, there were several holes where the golfer got a glimpse of the sandy terrain and the property’s potential.

When Cabot took over the property, they hired Kyle Franz to rejuvenate the golf course. Kyle exposed the natural terrain by stripping away a large portion of the trees and unnecessary turf. The result is a golf course that takes full advantage of its native environment. It is fun to play golf on and beautiful to look at.

#4. The greens on the Karoo course

Designing greens is a particularly difficult task for a golf course architect. If you get too creative, the greens are often labeled as “Tricked up” or “Mickey Mouse.” If you don’t bother to push the envelope, the architect can suffer an even worse fate… mediocrity.

The greens on Karoo certainly won’t be considered mediocre and they push the envelope right up to the very edge of Disney Land. The result are greens that are creative and a lot of fun to play.

#3. The Sunsets

While it comes to sunrises and sunsets, I almost always prefer the sunset. There is a sense of excitement as the sun gets lower, the shadows grow longer and the photographs get better. The topography at Cabot Citrus is perfectly suited to making these moments especially photogenic.

#2. Night Moves

After the sun goes down, most golfers have to put away their clubs for the evening. At Cabot Citrus Farms, the opposite is true. The lights come on as the sun goes down and the par 3 Wedge course lights up for play. Despite the moonlit experience, it is still difficult to lose a golf ball. Having a bad time during night golf is nearly impossible.

Shoeless night golf is encouraged.

#1. Fun Rules The Farm

Unless you are grinding for your PGA Tour card, the number one rule of golf should be to have fun. Cabot understands this rule and they wisely employed Mike Nuzzo to design 2 fun short courses. The Wedge has 11 holes, none longer than 115 yards and unlike some par 3 courses, all of the green complexes on the Wedge are bold and feature plenty of interest. The Wedge overflows with fun.

The Squeeze features 10 holes that range from 100 yards to 550 yards with most of the holes inspired by some of the world’s best short par 4’s. Attempting to drive the green on a par 4 is peak fun and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy yourself on The Squeeze. The course is perfect for those late afternoons when you are looking for a little extra bonus golf.

I have listed 8 things here but I could have listed 50. Cabot Citrus Farms is onto something special. If you are looking for your next great golf trip, Cabot Citrus Farms is one mighty fine option.
