“You guys have waterslides here?” That was my question to the front desk upon my arrival at the Wilderness Resort. The kind lady at reception just looked at me like I was an idiot. I guess that’s a yes, I thought to myself. It turns out that everyone in the state of Wisconsin knows that there are waterslides at the Wilderness Resort. Serious waterslides.
In addition to the waterslides at the Wilderness resort there is also a top notch golf course designed by Hurdzan and Fry. Every time that I encounter a creation by this duo I always leave with a smile on my face. Wild Rock would be no exception.
There are two things at Wild Rock that demand our immediate attention. The first of those is the rather impressive golf barn found behind the 16th green. I have yet to do a deep analysis on my favorite golf barns, but this beauty is certainly in the conversation on a potential golf barn ranking system and golf barn hall of fame.
One of the finest golf barns I have seen. Top 25 golf barn. Could be top ten with that silo height. @WildRockGolf pic.twitter.com/O4xZavCtaX

The second item for consideration is the omni present Wilderness Resort water tower. How many killer photographs could I manage with the water tower in the background? The answer is at least 6.
But what happens if we put all of the hoopla and frenzied madness surrounding golf barns and water towers aside? The answer is that we are still left with one hell of a golf course. The teeing options allow for challenge and fun at all levels of play. The tremendous views allow the casual resort guest to feel like they are on a nature hike. Most importantly, the golf course is playable. The fairways are wide enough that a well played golf shot can gain an advantage without being overly penal to a poorly struck golf shot.
This may sound cliche, but this distinction is difficult to accomplish and makes a huge difference in the continued enjoyment of a golf course.
Along with the championship course, there is also a short course at Wild Rock that rounds out the golf course experience nicely. The island green will satisfy the thrill seekers and keep the beginners challenged.
If you are looking to make a splash this summer in Wisconsin, I would look no further than the Wilderness Resort and Wild Rock Golf Course.
