I love golf art.
As a golf course photographer I live in the art of the game on a daily basis. So it is always exciting to run into another artist that shares this same passion but uses a different medium to express their love of the game. I recently acquired a piece of golf art from a company called Noble Tree Golf and it has quickly become one of my favorites. Now, in order to fully appreciate this particular piece of art we must travel back in time to France in the year of 1888.
1888 was the year when Willie Dunn Jr designed the 3rd hole at Biarritz Golf Club in the town of Biarritz, France. The hole was nicknamed “the chasm” and is the original design for what would later be called the Biarritz template. In the 1920’s CB McDonald implemented the design on various American golf courses and updated the name to reflect it’s French origins. It is one of the most recognizable and unique designs in golf course architecture.
In 2021, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail decided to implement their very own version of the Biarritz at Oxmoor Valley Golf Club. When visiting the golf course on The RGV Tour, I took some photographs of the golf hole and shared them on social media. Tyler at Noble Tree Golf saw those photographs and was inspired. The result of this inspiration was a glorious piece of woodworking.
You can clearly see that this is one of the greatest pieces of golf art that the world has ever known. Unfortunately, this particular piece now resides on my wall and is no longer available for purchase. I have even considered charging a fee to view it, but I have yet to work out the security considerations. In the meantime, Tyler can make more and you can create your very own Mona Lisa.
